silicon
Silicon is a naturally occurring semimetal (semimetals have properties of metals, but also of non-metals). Silicon dioxide is the second most abundant element on earth after oxygen. Mining takes place in sand pits. Silicon is used as an elemental semiconductor in the production of solar cells. Silicon is used primarily in polycrystalline and monocrystalline solar modules and there are already more than 1.6 million supporters in Germany who have already installed a photovoltaic system on their roofs. |
